The White House has condemned actor Mark Hamill after he shared an AI-generated image depicting Donald Trump lying in a grave before later deleting the post.
DR News reported that the image, posted on the social platform Bluesky, showed a tombstone reading “Donald J. Trump 1946-2024” alongside the words “If Only”.
White House response
According to Reuters, the White House accused Hamill of using dangerous rhetoric and described the actor as “a sick person”.
“These radical left-wing insane people can’t help it,” the White House said in a statement posted on X.
“This kind of rhetoric is exactly what has helped inspire three assassination attempts on our president in the past two years.”
Hamill deletes post
DR News reported that Hamill, best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films, later removed the image from his account.
In the original post, the actor reportedly wrote that Trump should live long enough to face political defeat in the midterm elections and be held accountable for “his countless crimes”.
Reuters said attempts to obtain comment from Hamill were unsuccessful.
Past attacks referenced
The White House response also referred to several real-life attacks and threats directed at Trump in recent years.
According to DR News, Trump was wounded in the ear during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in 2024 after a gunman opened fire.
The report also mentioned another attempted attack at a golf course later that year, where the suspect was eventually sentenced to life imprisonment.
Growing tensions
DR News further reported that another man was charged last month after allegedly attempting to target Trump during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington.
The dispute highlights growing political tensions in the United States surrounding online rhetoric, AI-generated imagery and threats against public figures during an increasingly heated election period.
