Three law enforcement officers have died and two more remain in critical condition after being shot while responding to an investigation in North Codorus Township, York County, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

A representative for the York County Office of Emergency Management said York County 9-1-1 received reports of a “police incident” at approximately 2:10 p.m. local time.

Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Colonel Christopher L. Paris confirmed in a press conference that the shooter was killed by police and that there is no current active threat in the county.

“I can confirm that there were five law enforcement officers who were shot today — three fatally [and] two that were transported here to WellSpan in York,” Paris said. “They are currently listed in critical but stable condition.”

Investigation Underway

Paris did not disclose the specific law enforcement departments involved at the request of the district attorney.

He said the officers were following up on an investigation that began the previous day, describing it as “domestic-related.” Many details remain under investigation.
