What is happening?

Australian woman, Corbie Jean Walpole, 25, has been sentenced for setting her lifelong friend alight after dousing him in petrol.

Why did she do it?

According to ABC, Walpole and the victim, Jake Loader (23 at the time), had been drinking for 12 hours prior to the attack.

Alegedly, it was a misogynistic comment from Loader that set Walpole off.

Get back in the kitchen

During the trial, Walpole testified that she attacked Loader after he told her to get back in the kitchen and not to drink with the boys.

“Go on, do it”

The court heard that after hearing Loader’s comment, Walpole left the table in the backyard, where they were drinking, and picked up a five-litre container of petrol.

She returned to the group, poured it over Loader and waved a lighter at him.

Alegedly, Loader then goadede her on by saying “Go on, do it.”

Thrown in a pool

According to Loader’s friends, they heard Loader screaming and tried to put out the flames, but when that proved insufficient, Loader was thrown in a pool instead.

“He told me to do it”

Walpole is said to have been standing and watching it all unfold while saying “What the f*** have I done” and “He told me to do it”.

Walpole has since been diagnosed with PTSD.

Friends for at least nine years

According to News Australia, the couple had been friends for at least nine years when the attack happened on January 7 2024.

Eight days in a coma

Loader was put in an induced coma for eight days.

He was hospitalized for 74 days total, undergoing 10 surgeries and skin grafts.

He ended up with third-degree burns on 55 % of his body.

Sentenced to jail

Walpole pleaded guilty in December and has now been sentenced to a minimum og four-and-a-half-years in jail.
