Trending Now

Lee Sun-kyun, the South Korean actor known for his role in the Academy Award-winning film "Parasite," was found dead in a car near Waryong Park in central Seoul at 10:30 am local time on Wednesday.

The 48-year-old actor had been under investigation for illegal drug use since October and had reportedly asked police not to publicize information about the ongoing investigations into his alleged drug use in the days before his death. This is reported by news.com.au.

Questioned Three Times

Lee had been questioned three times by police, including a 19-hour session last weekend. Despite testing negative for drugs in two recent tests, media coverage of his police interviews was intense.

Lee's lawyer expressed hope for future interrogations to be conducted privately, citing the actor's burden of appearing in public settings to discuss the allegations.

However, Incheon Metropolitan Police chief Kim Hui-jung defended the legal treatment of Lee, stating that the investigation was conducted based on specific reports, testimony, evidence, and legally prescribed procedures.

Public and Presidential Criticism

Former South Korean President Moon Jae-in criticized the police practice and sensational media reporting of the case.

He condemned the practice of damaging someone's honor and character through excessive media exposure, leading to extreme choices.

This tragic news has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, highlighting the intense scrutiny and pressure faced by public figures in South Korea.
