It has been six years since the final episode of ‘Mr. Robot’ aired.
Rami Malek is now shedding light on whether he might consider returning as Elliot Alderson in a sequel or spinoff.
Malek recently took part in Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles panel in connection with his new movie ‘Nuremberg’. When asked about the possibility of continuing ‘Mr. Robot’, he made it clear that he doesn’t envision a future for himself in the role of Elliot.
However, he did share one piece of good news for fans.
“Sam [Esmail] and I just talked about working together again,” Malek said.

Sam Esmail – the series’ creator, showrunner, and director of every episode in seasons 2–4 – had a clear plan for the show from the beginning, and ‘Mr. Robot’ concluded according to his vision, not because of cancellation.
The finale from December 2019 is considered by many to be one of the show’s best episodes ever, boasting an impressive 9.8/10 on IMDb and a fourth season with 98% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics.
Malek’s lack of interest in a continuation therefore comes as no surprise.
The series tied up most character arcs and thematic threads with precision, giving the universe an ending that satisfied both critics and fans.
A Possible Esmail–Malek Reunion
Although a direct sequel is off the table, the prospect of a new collaboration between the two creative forces is promising.

Since ‘Mr. Robot’ ended, Malek has kept busy with major film roles. He has played a villain in ‘No Time to Die’ (2021), a physicist in ‘Oppenheimer’ (2023), and an action hero in ‘The Amateur’ (2025).
In ‘Nuremberg’ (2025), he portrays psychiatrist Douglas Kelley.
Esmail has been behind the Netflix film ‘Leave the World Behind’ (2023), which even includes easter eggs referencing ‘Mr. Robot’ and, according to Esmail, exists in the same universe as the series.
It is therefore not unthinkable that a future project featuring Malek could take place within the same universe without being a direct continuation.
For now, their next collaboration is only at the discussion stage, and a new shared project is likely still several years away.
