He emphasizes the importance of not neglecting foot care, as feet, like our hands, lack sufficient sebaceous glands, making them prone to dryness.
How to stop having dry, cracked and damaged heels?
Regular exfoliation is recommended using AHAs and PHAs. AHAs, notably glycolic acid, are gentle exfoliators derived from fruit acids, promoting cell turnover. PHAs, known for their hydrating and soothing properties, are particularly suitable for dry, non-irritated skin. Sugai suggests exfoliating feet once or twice weekly for optimal results.
For hydration, products containing glycerin and panthenol are beneficial due to their moisturizing and calming effects. Lanolin, present in certain products like Aquaphor balm-spray, adds to the emollient and hydrating benefits. Sugai advises applying such products at night, covering with socks, to wake up to smoother heels.
Urea, another key ingredient, offers hydration and assists in removing dead skin. Combining it with petrolatum (vaseline) enhances its effectiveness against dehydration. Vaseline, a part of the "Slugging" trend, involves applying it overnight for enhanced skin hydration.
Lastly, salicylic acid is recommended for its ability to stimulate cell renewal, aiding in the regeneration of healthy skin. Following these guidelines can lead to softer, well-maintained feet throughout the year.
