Everyday necessity requires that toilets be cleaned weekly to prevent various small inconveniences, such as limescale building up at the bottom of the bowl. Linternaute provides five tips for effectively descaling toilets and whitening the bottom of the WC bowl.

How to Spot Limescale in Toilets?

Characterized by a brown to black color, limescale forms from water turning into what we later call "tartar." To remove the brown deposit at the bottom of the toilets, you can use several methods. Here are five of them for whitening the toilet bowl without much effort.

Necessary Equipment for Descaling Toilets:

  • A descaling product depending on the chosen method: white vinegar, hydrochloric acid, baking soda, soda crystals, or cola.

  • A toilet brush.

  • Cleaning gloves.

Methods for Descaling:

  1. Pour two cups of white vinegar into the bottom of the bowl, add 1 liter of boiling water, and let it act for 4-6 hours. Scrub with the brush and flush.

  2. Pour a can of soda into the toilet bowl, wait for half an hour, scrub with the brush, and flush.

  3. Initially flush the toilet, descale generously the walls with a sponge soaked in white vinegar, spread baking soda on the moist walls and the bottom of the bowl, wait a few hours, then remove residues with your brush.

  4. Pour 500 ml of white vinegar on the toilet bowl walls, sprinkle baking soda gently on top, let the chemical reaction occur for about 30 minutes, then scrub with a brush and flush.

  5. Pour a glass of hydrochloric acid into the bottom of the WC bowl, wait half a day, scrub, and flush. Always wear gloves for protection.

Difficulty: Beginner - This operation is accessible to everyone.

Duration of Realization: It will take a maximum of 10 minutes for the application, and several hours for the product to take effect.

Following these methods can help keep your toilet clean and free from limescale, ensuring a hygienic and pleasant bathroom environment.

CAUTION: Always check if it's legal in your area to clean your toilet using the above methods. There might be regulations to protect the environment, and it's important that you follow them.
