Kale and Spinach Recalled in Canada Over Contamination Risk

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a widespread recall of kale and spinach products sold under the brand name Hak due to concerns over foreign matter contamination, specifically pieces of rubber found in the greens.

The recall affects several packaged sizes of spinach and kale that were distributed in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario.

What Products Are Affected?

The recalled items include:

Spinach:

• 330 g package — UPC: 8720600608940
• 630 g package — UPC: 8720600609817

Kale:

• 340 g package — UPC: 8720600608605
• 680 g package — UPC: 8720600609824

All affected products have lot codes ranging from “LG262” to “LG292.”

What You Should Do

If you have recently bought any of these products:

• Check the UPC and lot code on the package.
• If your product matches, do not consume it.
• Either dispose of it safely or return it to the store where you bought it for a possible refund.

While there have been no reports of injury or illness, the CFIA warns that consuming food contaminated with foreign materials like rubber can pose a choking hazard or cause internal injury.

It is not yet confirmed whether distribution extended beyond these provinces.
