A multi-state tomato recall is underway after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) flagged potential Salmonella contamination linked to several brands.
While no illnesses have been reported to date, consumers are urged to check packaging and discard any affected products to avoid the risk of foodborne illness.
The recall involves three brands of tomatoes distributed across the southeastern and midwestern United States.

Even though no illnesses have been confirmed, the risk of Salmonella — especially to vulnerable groups — is significant.
Salmonella infection, or salmonellosis, can cause serious illness, particularly in young children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms typically appear 6 to 72 hours after exposure and may include:
- Stomach cramps
- Nausea or vomiting
- Headache
- Watery diarrhea (possibly with blood or mucus)
- Fever and chills
- Loss of appetite
