Do you place your glasses in the cabinet with the rim up or down? Have you ever thought about the best way to store them? You might have decided whether to store them as they are used or with the bottom up. Many opt for the latter, but is it really the best choice?

According to DenOffentlige.dk TikTok user, @bs.hidden.secrets, who has over 76,000 followers, shared a kitchen hack in a video that has garnered 3.6 million views and 128,000 likes so far.

According to this popular TikToker, storing glasses upside-down means that all the weight is borne by the rim of the glass, which is the most fragile part. "Over time, there's a greater likelihood that the glass will break," explains @bs.hidden.secrets.

What Does an Expert Say?

Opinions in the video's comment section were divided. Some agreed with the TikTok star's advice, pointing out that it's "unhygienic to store the part you drink from on the surface" because it can gather dust.

Others argued that the solution might be to buy stronger glasses, and the video generally received some criticism.

So, is there a right or wrong way to store glasses?

Culinary producer Clare Langan told marthastewart.com that there's no 'wrong way' to store glasses. However, she partly agrees with @bs.hidden.secrets, especially when it comes to more delicate glassware like champagne and wine glasses, which are safer stored upright.

She also recommends storing less used mugs and glasses with the rim down to prevent dust accumulation.

For thicker glasses, the expert says it's safe to stack them, which can also help prevent dust and save space
