In an unusual incident in High Point, North Carolina, a man faced an unexpected assault following a simple bodily function.
Noe Perez, a 43-year-old self-employed construction worker, was at a local meat market when he burped, an act that unexpectedly triggered violence.
According to the police report obtained by The Smoking Gun, Perez was waiting for an order at the Hispanic Meat Market on a Wednesday evening when his burp upset another male customer inside the store.
Officer Jerry Trew reported that the situation escalated quickly when Perez left the business with a female companion. Outside, the offended customer, along with three other Hispanic males, confronted Perez.
The confrontation turned physical when the suspect punched Perez in the face and kicked him in the hand. Following the assault, the assailant and his associates fled the scene in a car. Perez, who resides in nearby Asheboro, suffered a contusion over his left eye but declined medical assistance offered by the police.
The suspect remains at large, and the High Point Police Department is treating the matter as a misdemeanor assault.
