Nearly 600 former Israeli security officials, including several former heads of Mossad and Shin Bet, have urged US President Donald Trump to pressure Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza.

“Stop the war in Gaza!” urges this letter from the Commanders for Israel Security (CIS) movement, signed by 550 former heads of intelligence services, military officials, police officers and diplomats, and made public on Sunday night into Monday.

“This War is Leading Israel to Lose Its Identity”

“This war has ceased to be a just war and is leading the State of Israel to lose its identity,” warns Ami Ayalon, former director of the Shin Bet, in a video published by the same movement to accompany the publication of this letter.

Three former heads of Mossad, Tamir Pardo, Efraim Halevy, and Danny Yatom, five former Shin Bet leaders, Nadav Argaman, Yoram Cohen, Ami Ayalon, Yaakov Peri, and Carmi Gilon, and three former chiefs of staff, Ehud Barak, Moshe Bogie Ya’alon, and Dan Halutz, are among the signatories of the letter and appear in the video.

“On behalf of the CIS, Israel’s largest group of former generals from the army, Mossad, Shin Bet, police and equivalent diplomatic corps, we urge you to end the war in Gaza. You did it in Lebanon. It’s time to do it in Gaza,” they urge President Trump.

“Hamas No Longer Poses a Strategic Threat”

“The IDF (Israeli army) has long achieved the two objectives that could be achieved by force: the dismantling of the military formations and the Hamas government,” the CIS members believe. “The third, and most important, can only be achieved through an agreement: bringing all the hostages home,” they emphasize.

“Hostages Cannot Wait”

“We believe, as professionals, that Hamas no longer poses a strategic threat to Israel, and our experience tells us that Israel has everything it needs to manage its residual terrorist capabilities, remotely or otherwise,” the signatories of the letter believe.

“Finding the remaining important figures in Hamas can be done later,” but “the hostages cannot wait,” insist the former generals and intelligence chiefs.

“Your Credibility with Israelis Gives You Influence”

“Your credibility with the vast majority of Israelis strengthens your ability to guide Prime Minister Netanyahu and his government in the right direction,” the signatories add.

“End the war, return the hostages, stop the suffering, and build a regional-international coalition to help the Palestinian Authority (once reformed) offer the people of Gaza and all Palestinians an alternative to Hamas and its perverse ideology,” the letter said.
