A New Year's truce between Russia and Ukraine is possible.

This was stated in a conversation with Lenta, by Alexey Chepa, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs.

But according to Alexey Chepa, reaching an agreement will be difficult, as he claims Kyiv is impossible to negotiate with.

"Anything is possible if there is some desire for it. But it is impossible to negotiate with Kyiv officials. It is important that the truce is not used as a provocation or as an opportunity for redeployment," said the deputy.

Earlier, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov stated that there would be no truce in Ukraine as long as US President Joe Biden remains in power.

In turn, White House Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby promised that the US would not dictate the terms of a truce to Ukraine.

He noted that only Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Ukrainian people should determine the conditions for peace negotiations.
