During the night of May 30, 2024, Ukraine's air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed seven cruise missiles and 32 Shahed drones launched by Russian forces.

The coordinated missile and air strike targeted military facilities and critical infrastructure across several regions in Ukraine.

A Coordinated Defense Effort

Lieutenant General Mykola Oleschuk, commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported the details of the attack on Telegram.

The assault included eight S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles aimed at the Kharkiv Region, 11 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles launched from Tu-95 MS strategic aircraft in Saratov Oblast, Russia, and 32 Shahed-131/136 drones launched from Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Cape Chauda in Crimea.

Ukraine's defense forces, including anti-aircraft missile units, mobile fire groups, and radio-electronic warfare units, effectively repelled the air attack.

They managed to shoot down seven Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles and all 32 Shahed-131/136 attack drones across several regions:

  • Khmelnytskyi

  • Dnipropetrovsk

  • Cherkasy

  • Kirovohrad

  • Zaporizhzhya

  • Odesa

  • Kherson

  • Kyiv

  • Vinnytsia.

Despite the successful interception, the attack caused damage in some areas. Russian forces targeted a critical infrastructure facility in Kharkiv, resulting in injuries to at least two individuals.
