A 6-year-old boy embarked on an unintended solo journey, courtesy of a mishap by Spirit Airlines.

The young traveler, who was supposed to fly from Philadelphia to Fort Myers, Florida, to meet his grandmother, found himself 160 miles off course in Orlando. The Washington Post reported.

Maria Ramos, the boy's grandmother, experienced a moment of panic when she discovered that her grandson was not on the flight that landed in Fort Myers. Her concern turned to relief when she received a call from him in Orlando.

The boy, on his first-ever flight, had been mistakenly placed on the wrong plane by the airline staff.

Airline Apologizes

Spirit Airlines has expressed regret over the incident, emphasizing that the child was under their supervision throughout the ordeal and that they are actively investigating the circumstances that led to this error.

"The child was always under the care and supervision of a Spirit Team Member, and as soon as we discovered the error, we took immediate steps to communicate with the family and reconnect them," Spirit Airlines states.

Spirit Airlines did not explain how the mistake happened
