Seven people, including three civilians, were killed in a series of Israeli airstrikes on military targets in Syria on Sunday night.

The strikes hit army bases in the Masyaf area, east of the city of Hama, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Kurier reports that among the dead were a man and his son traveling in a car, while the other victims included another civilian and four Syrian soldiers. At least 15 others were injured in the attack.

The airstrikes were carried out in three waves. They reportedly targeted five military sites known to house pro-Iranian groups and weapons development experts.

The area is also home to a scientific research center, where 13 explosions were recorded, according to the Observatory.

The organization, based in Britain, collects its information through a network of sources within Syria, though the details are difficult to independently verify.

Syria's state news agency Sana initially reported at least five dead and 19 injured, noting that several Israeli missiles were intercepted by Syrian air defenses. According to the agency, the airstrikes began around 11:20 p.m. local time (10:20 p.m. CEST) and were launched from northwest Lebanon.

Israel has not officially commented on the strikes, as is typical for the country regarding its operations in Syria.

However, Israel frequently targets positions of pro-Iranian militias in Syria, aiming to disrupt Iranian influence in the region. These attacks have become more frequent since the beginning of the Gaza conflict 11 months ago.
