At least 20 people lost their lives in a tragic bus accident near Venice on Tuesday evening, confirmed by Venice's Mayor Luigi Brugnaro, according to Italian media La Repubblica.
Twelve people are reported injured, and up to five are missing.
The bus reportedly went off the edge of a motorway bridge around 8 p.m local time, landing between a warehouse and railway tracks.
It subsequently caught fire.
The first victims found were charred, La Repubblica reports, adding that children were among them.

On social media, Mayor Brugnaro called the incident "a massive tragedy."
He said, "I immediately ordered the city to mourn in memory of the numerous victims who were on the crashed bus. It's an apocalyptic scene; there are no words."
As a result of the incident, trains between the city of Mestre and Venice have been canceled.
