Australia Intensifies Sanctions Against Russia on Invasion Anniversary.

Trending Now

On the two-year anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Australia reaffirms its solidarity with Ukraine, mourning the nation's losses and upholding its unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Australian Government, demonstrating its continued commitment to aiding Ukraine in its defense and ensuring accountability for those behind Russia's unlawful invasion, has announced the imposition of additional targeted financial sanctions and travel bans.

New Sanctions Announced:
  • 55 individuals face targeted financial sanctions and travel bans.

  • 37 entities are subjected to targeted financial sanctions.

  • The sanctions specifically address those implicated in the deportation of Ukrainian children from areas under temporary Russian control, following the International Criminal Court's issuance of arrest warrants for President Putin and Russia's Commissioner for Children's Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, for war crimes related to the unlawful deportation.

  • Further sanctions target sectors including defense, energy, media, and minerals within Russia, and extend to entities involved in Russia's procurement networks across Belarus, Iran, and North Korea.

The Australian Government's stance is clear: those supporting Russia's illegal war efforts will face significant consequences. With the latest sanctions, Australia has imposed over 1,200 sanctions in response to Russia's aggression towards Ukraine.

Continued Support for Ukraine:
  • Following last week's announcement, the Australian Government is contributing $50 million to the International Fund for Ukraine, aimed at procuring essential military capabilities. This boosts Australia's total support to Ukraine to approximately $960 million, including $780 million in military assistance.

Australia's message is unequivocal: it calls on Russia and its allies to immediately cease the ongoing conflict. As the world marks this somber anniversary, Australia reiterates its support for Ukraine and its people, standing firm against aggression and in favor of peace and sovereignty.
