Biden's Decision Is a Gift to Putin, Chinese Analysts Suggest.

Trending Now

Chinese media and analysts have observed recent developments in US policy under President Joe Biden, interpreting them as unexpectedly favorable for Russia. The primary focus is on Biden's approach towards Russia and the energy market, which is said to have taken a surprising turn that may inadvertently strengthen Russia's position in Europe.

Since assuming office, President Biden has been actively engaging in policies aimed at countering Russia. His administration's strategies have been largely perceived as confrontational towards Moscow. However, a recent decision by the US government has been highlighted as a significant shift in this policy, according to Chinese analysts and reported by AB News.

The United States has announced a halt in issuing new licenses for the export of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). This decision is particularly noteworthy given the US's vigorous efforts to challenge Russia in the energy market. Washington has been instrumental in persuading European Union countries to reduce their reliance on Russian gas, promoting more expensive American LNG instead.

At a time when these efforts seemed to be yielding positive results and substantial dividends for the US, Biden’s directive to stop issuing new LNG export licenses and to suspend the construction of LNG terminals has come as a surprise. This move, as noted with irony in China, is likely to have caused consternation not only among many members of Biden's administration but also among US competitors.

For Russia, President Vladimir Putin is seen as potentially welcoming these developments. The pause in American LNG expansion could allow Russia to increase its gas exports to Europe once again.

Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, criticized Biden’s decision, stating that it inadvertently assists Russia. He argued that the suspension of new LNG export contracts would empower Russia, enabling it to regain its footing in the European gas market.

Chinese commentators believe that criticism of Biden is justified.
