Can't Close or Minimize Facebook Messenger Chat Windows on PC?

Trending Now

Since yesterday morning, many Facebook users have experienced difficulties in closing their chat messages when using the desktop version of Facebook.

Specifically, what happened was that if you were in a chat writing to a friend, colleague, family member, or someone else, and when you wanted to close/minimize the chat by clicking on the 'X', nothing would happen.

This was a major source of frustration for many, as numerous chat windows could occupy a significant portion of one's screen. Moreover, there was the risk of being unable to close a private chat quickly if someone suddenly looked over your shoulder.

Many might have thought that the error was local, but in fact, it's a widespread issue experienced by Facebook users globally. Fortunately, there is a solution.

How to Fix the Facebook Messenger Error

There is a very simple solution to the problem, although it's not optimal that it has to be done this way.

To close a chat while this error persists, you just need to click on the chat you are currently engaged in and then press the escape button on your keyboard. This should close the chat window, just like when you click on the 'X'.

It's unclear exactly how long this error has been occurring, why it arose, and how long it will last. But fortunately, you can quickly close your chat windows by simply pressing your escape key.
