Former Representative Liz Cheney has disclosed what she describes as a "dangerous and chilling" moment she overheard during a phone call involving former President Donald Trump's legal team.

This revelation came during an interview with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, where Cheney discussed details from her book, including a passage about a significant phone call that took place on January 4, 2021.

During the call, Trump's legal team was heard discussing an elaborate plot that involved the use of fake electors for Trump, as well as expected cooperation from then-Vice President Mike Pence.

Cheney, who was not intended to be a participant or listener on the call, recounted her shock upon hearing the details of this plan.

Cheney expressed her intense concern upon realizing the strategy that Trump's team was considering, which involved using these fake electors to refuse to count the legitimate electors.

Following the call, she immediately sought the counsel of the House parliamentarian to explore possible ways to counteract this plan. Cheney mentioned that the answers to how this could be stopped were not encouraging.

Furthermore, she revealed that Vice President Pence was simultaneously holding discussions with the Senate parliamentarian about the situation.

Cheney commended Pence for ultimately performing his duty bravely, but she underscored that the unfolding events at that time represented a significantly perilous and concerning moment in American politics.

This conversation with Rachel Maddow provides insight into the internal dynamics and the potential constitutional crisis that was narrowly averted following the 2020 election.
