China with clear threat: “American weapons won’t save you”

Beijing also issued a warning to the US.

What is happening?

Monday, Jiang Bin, a spokesperson from the Chinese Ministry of National Defence, P.R.C., called on the US to stop all military collaboration with Taiwan.

Sending more tanks to Taiwan

During the press meeting, Bin was asked to comment on reports that the US is sending more M1A2 Abrams tanks to Taiwan.

“This is more proof that the US and the Taiwanese independence movement are trying to violate Chinas core interests,” the spokesperson said.

Undermining stability

Bin then went on with a series of rhetorical questions, asking who is underminig the stability of the Taiwan Strait and continues to create problems.

“We believe, we all know the answer,” the spokesperson said.

Chinese core interest

The question of Taiwan is a Chinese core interest, and the first red line that should not be crossed is the relationship between the US and China, Bin said.

Burned by fire

Bin then went on to encourage the US to stop all military collaboration with Taiwan, warning that the US otherwise “will be burnt by playing with fire”.

Speaking directly to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), the current ruling party in Taiwan, Bin warned that “American weapons can’t save you” and that seeking external help to support Taiwanese independence is doomed to fail.
