A customer-initiated thread on the Aldi Shoppers UK Facebook group brought to light an unusual issue: Aldi's fresh chicken products were scanning at prices ranging from £65 to £650.

According to TheGrocer.co.uk this was due to a barcode error.

The thread quickly gained traction, with shoppers sharing their own experiences. One customer mentioned that a single medium chicken scanned at £500, while another said their bill showed £656 for chicken.

The issue was traced back to a barcode labeling error that caused the scanners to register the chicken at multiple times its actual weight.

To address this, store assistants have been manually entering the weights at the tills since the weekend.

Most shoppers on the Facebook group appeared understanding, advising others to double-check their bills and stating that mistakes happen.

An Aldi spokesperson confirmed that the issue was due to a labeling error at their supplier's production site and has since been rectified.

Aldi issued an apology for the inconvenience caused and assured that only a small number of stores were affected. Staff were able to ensure that customers were charged the correct price at the till.
