The shocking incident took place on Sunday in the Polish town of Skarżysko-Kamienna, located about 140 kilometers south of Warsaw.
When the daughter of the elderly citizen, who lived alone in his apartment, visited him in the afternoon, she found her father lying on the bed wrapped in a blanket, no longer showing signs of life. So, she called the police.
As reported by the Polish newspaper Super Express, the man was very ill. A doctor, who was also alerted, stated that the 74-year-old had died due to his age. He noticed nothing unusual.
But the employees of a funeral home, who arrived at the apartment a few minutes later, did.
They quickly realized that the doctor had made a mistake. For there was a knife in the deceased’s chest, which was covered by the blanket.
The police and prosecutor’s office immediately began investigating.
The case is a mystery to the investigators and raises many questions. According to a spokesperson for the police, it was initially ruled out that anyone contributed to the man’s death.
The question of how it was possible for the doctor, who declared the death, not to notice that there was a knife stuck in the corpse’s chest, is still unclear.
At this point, it is hard to say how this happened, said a spokesperson for the district prosecutor’s office in Skarżysko-Kamienna to Gazeta Wyborcza.
