The White House has moved swiftly to explain and justify what happened.
Caught on camera
US President Donald Trump was filmed on Tuesday during a visit to a Ford factory in Dearborn, near Detroit. In the footage, he can be seen walking along an elevated walkway inside the facility.
At the start of the video, a voice is heard shouting from off camera, though the words are unclear. Trump then raises his middle finger in the direction of the shouting.
The clip was shared on TikTok and X and later published by the celebrity news website TMZ, according to Digi24.ro and News.ro.
White House response
The incident prompted questions about the president’s conduct. In response, the White House defended Trump’s actions.

“A madman was wildly shouting insults in a fit of rage, and the president responded in a completely appropriate and unambiguous manner,” White House communications director Steven Cheung said in a statement sent to AFP.
Officials did not identify the person who shouted at the president or confirm what was said during the exchange.
Claims about the shout
TMZ reported that the individual confronting Trump allegedly yelled the words “pedophile protector.” The phrase has been linked by commentators to the long-running Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
Epstein, a New York financier, died in prison in 2019 before standing trial on charges of sexually exploiting young women, including minors.
Political background
Donald Trump previously maintained a friendly relationship with Epstein, a connection that has continued to attract political scrutiny. The issue has resurfaced repeatedly in public debate and campaign attacks.

The US Congress has passed legislation requiring the Trump administration to release documents related to the Epstein case that are held by federal justice authorities.
So far, the administration has only partially published material from what is commonly referred to as the Epstein dossier, according to AFP.
Growing scrutiny
The video from Detroit adds to a series of moments that have drawn attention to Trump’s public behaviour while in office. Critics say the gesture was inappropriate for a sitting president, while supporters have echoed the White House’s defence.
As the clip continues to circulate online, it is likely to fuel further debate about conduct, accountability, and the unresolved questions surrounding the Epstein files.
