In a recent development, five American citizens who were imprisoned in Iran have been released. As part of a prisoner exchange, Iranian inmates in the U.S. were also allowed to return to their homeland.
This move led former U.S. President Donald Trump to unleash a torrent of insults against his successor, Joe Biden.
President Joe Biden welcomed the release of the prisoners, describing it as an end to "years of torment, uncertainty, and suffering." However, the agreement with Tehran had already faced considerable criticism in the U.S.
Former Vice President Mike Pence labeled the deal as the "largest ransom payment in American history." Critics warned that Iran could potentially use the billions of U.S. dollars for military purposes.
Republican Senator Tom Cotton also took to social media to criticize the exchange, stating, "Joe Biden's embarrassing appeasement policy not only strengthens Iran but also makes America less secure."
Donald Trump weighed in on the matter through his social media platform, Truth Social. Not only did he launch into a tirade, but he also boasted about his past accomplishments as President.
"I brought 58 hostages back from various countries, including North Korea, and I never paid a dime. They all understood that they had to bring these people home," Trump wrote. He continued, stating that "countries didn't even start the conversation asking for money because they knew they wouldn't get it." Trump concluded his post by calling Joe Biden "incompetent" and "corrupt," ending with the insult, "He's as dumb as a rock."
