Musk and Trump reignite friendship after months of hostility.
Just months after a bitter public feud, Elon Musk and President Donald Trump appear to be back on friendly terms.
Their renewed rapport became visible during two high-profile Washington events this week, where both men publicly acknowledged each other after a long period of silence.
Their latest interactions suggest a dramatic reset in a relationship that seemed beyond repair earlier this year.
A public show of praise
Speaking at the U.S.–Saudi Investment Forum on November 19, Trump highlighted benefits of his “Big Beautiful Bill,” including special deductions for domestic car purchases.
Gesturing toward Musk in the audience, he said: “If they buy a nice Tesla car and borrow the money… You are so lucky I am with you, Elon.” He then asked the room, “Has he ever thanked me properly?”
Musk, who attended the forum for the second day in a row, remained silent at the time. Hours later, however, he posted a series of photos on X with the message: “I would like to thank President Trump for all he has done for America and the world.”
The praise stunned observers who had watched the two men clash sharply over federal spending earlier in the year.
From feud to reconciliation
Musk’s fallout with Trump began while he headed the Department of Government Efficiency, a role he held from January until May 30. The relationship collapsed after Musk denounced the “Big Beautiful Bill,” writing on X: “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.”
Trump responded furiously, branding Musk a “train wreck” and accusing him of “going off the rails,” triggering months of mutual silence.
Efforts to mend the rift surfaced in September, when both men attended a memorial for right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.
Trump later told reporters that Musk approached him afterward. “Elon came over and said hello,” he said. “We had a little conversation. We had a very good relationship, but it was nice that he came over.”
