Former US Attorney General Pam Bondi was questioned by a congressional committee over her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case amid continued demands for greater transparency.
Pam Bondi, who served as attorney general during Donald Trump’s second term, has been questioned by a congressional committee over her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case.
The closed-door hearing comes amid ongoing criticism over transparency and the release of documents linked to the convicted sex offender.
Congressional scrutiny
According to Digi24, citing AFP and Agerpres, Bondi appeared before a House of Representatives investigative committee on Friday.
The former attorney general was questioned behind closed doors about decisions made during her time overseeing matters related to the Epstein case.
Democratic lawmakers and several victims of Epstein had called for a public hearing instead.
The case continues to attract significant political and public attention in the United States.
Transparency demands
“Enough lies, enough cover-ups. It’s time for Pam Bondi to answer our questions,” Democratic Congressman Robert Garcia wrote on social media before the hearing.
According to Digi24, Garcia later criticised the decision to conduct the hearing privately, arguing that the public should be able to hear Bondi’s testimony.
A transcript of the session is expected to be released at a later date.
Republican committee chairman James Comer defended the closed format, saying Bondi had cooperated promptly with investigators.
Epstein controversy
Bondi became closely associated with the Epstein controversy after stating in 2025 that a list of the financier’s alleged clients was awaiting approval for publication.
However, the US Department of Justice and the FBI later stated that no such list existed.
According to Digi24, both agencies said they had already released all documents they were legally required to make public.
The issue has remained a source of controversy throughout Trump’s second presidency.
Political fallout
Donald Trump dismissed Bondi from her post in April.
Several US media outlets reported that the president had become frustrated with her inability to secure prosecutions against political opponents.
Meanwhile, victims of Epstein gathered outside the hearing room and demanded that Bondi testify publicly and under oath.
The debate over transparency in the Epstein case continues to fuel political tensions in Washington.
