From “woke” to worship: Inside Pete Hegseth’s conservative Christian plan to remake the Pentagon

The radical transformation of the United States military continues under Pete Hegseth.

Much has been said and written about Pete Hegseth’s purge of military generals at the Pentagon.

It has gone much more under the radar how the former Fox News host turned Defense Secretary is fusing the military with Christianity.

Yesterday, Hegseth took another step in interlocking the military and his own religious beliefs.

Office of Religious Affairs

Pete Hegseth announced at his “State of the Force” military conference that service members, most of whom Hegseth claims are religious, will now have better religious support after the opening of the Office of Religious Affairs.

Likewise, Hegseth says this office gives the chaplains a direct line to the Secretary without any red tape involved.

“The experts, our chaplains, will finally have an advocate at the highest levels,” Hegseth said, according to USA Today. “Policy and resources will serve the mission, not smother the mission.”

New office after firing the Chief of Chaplains

This newly established office comes directly after Hegseth fired former Major General William Green Jr., who was the Army’s Chief of Chaplains.

Hegseth has previously complained that under the prior administration, religion had taken a backseat to other bureaucratic things.

Hegseth is part of a Calvinist wing of evangelical Christianity called the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC).

The CREC is a known archconservative Christian group rooted in the belief that everything happens because of God’s will and that it is the believer’s duty to build God’s Kingdom before Jesus returns.

Perhaps relevant is that Hegseth likes to quote this verse from the Bible: “Jesus has the final say over all of it.”

Other new initiatives to support military religion

The Office of Religious Affairs was not the only new initiative introduced yesterday by Hegseth.

Hegseth plans to cut 20% of all the admirals and generals in the military. According to Hegseth, there is a simple translation of what that will entail: “no fatties, no trannies, no beardos, no weirdos, no wimps, no radicals. Just warriors.”

By cutting out “woke” and “diversity” and promoting Christianity, Hegseth is certain that diversity is not the US military’s strength, but Christian unity is.

“The ideological clowns are out. The patriotic cowboys are in, with testosterone testing on top.”
