German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius recently affirmed his belief that Ukraine has the potential to win its ongoing war against Russia.
In a compelling statement to Focus magazine, which was excerpted by Tagesschau, Pistorius responded affirmatively when asked about Ukraine's prospects for victory.
"We must do everything possible to achieve this," the Defense Minister stressed. He noted that this commitment is why Germany is "reaching the threshold of pain" in terms of transferring weapons from Bundeswehr stockpiles.
In his interview, Pistorius drew a historical parallel between Putin's Russia waging war against Ukraine and Hitler's Germany's annexation of Czechoslovakia in 1938, suggesting that Europe should brace for a potential large-scale assault by the Russian Federation.
The discussion also touched on broader concerns within Europe regarding potential escalations. Echoing sentiments expressed by the EU’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, Pistorius hinted at the growing realization within European circles that a full-scale conflict on the continent is no longer a distant possibility.
According to Borrell, Europeans must devise new financial strategies to adequately prepare for what may lie ahead.
