The loudest moments at the Golden Globe Awards came with applause and laughter, but much of the night’s meaning lay beneath the surface. As trophies were handed out, Hollywood’s power struggles and creative anxieties hovered largely unspoken.

Against that backdrop, one studio emerged as the clear winner.
A defining night
According to NBC News, Warner Bros. Discovery had the most successful evening at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, with major wins for One Battle After Another, Sinners, The Pitt and Hacks.
The results came as the company sits at the centre of an industry battle over ownership and control.
Inside the Beverly Hilton ballroom were Warner Bros. Discovery chief executive David Zaslav, alongside Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos and Paramount CEO David Ellison, all linked to the company’s possible sale. None of them were mentioned on stage.

Instead, several winners made comments that hinted at deeper tensions. Actors and directors including Stellan Skarsgård and Ryan Coogler spoke about the importance of the theatrical experience, remarks widely seen as sceptical of streaming-led models.

Host Nikki Glaser also drew laughter with a jab at Paramount-owned CBS News, calling it “CBS News: America’s newest place to see BS news,” a line that echoed criticism of recent changes at the network.
Politics mostly absent
Despite several nominated films dealing with political themes, overt politics were largely missing from speeches. Films such as One Battle After Another and The Secret Agent explore resistance and repression, but most winners avoided direct references.
Actor Wagner Moura dedicated his award to those “sticking to their values in difficult moments”.
Oscars momentum builds
Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another strengthened its awards-season standing, winning four Globes including best musical or comedy, best director and best screenplay. The film entered the night with nine nominations and has already claimed several major critics’ prizes.
Timothée Chalamet also picked up his first Golden Globe, for Marty Supreme, boosting his chances ahead of the Academy Awards.
