Estonia has recently completed the delivery of a significant military aid package, including advanced Javelin anti-tank missiles, according to a statement from the Estonian Defense Ministry on February 3rd. Valued at 80 million euros ($86 million), this latest contribution underscores Estonia's commitment to aiding Ukraine amid ongoing conflicts.
Approved in December, the comprehensive aid package encompasses not only Javelin missiles but also machine guns, a variety of vehicles and vessels, ammunition, and diving equipment. This initiative is part of Estonia's ongoing efforts to support Ukrainian forces.
Estonia's Defense Minister, Hanno Pevkur, expressed satisfaction with the successful delivery, emphasizing the importance of the aid in bolstering Ukrainian defense capabilities. He highlighted that such assistance sends a strong message to the Kremlin of continued support for Ukraine by Estonia and its allies, aiming for a conclusive victory.
Due to operational security, the specific details regarding the quantity of military equipment and the exact delivery dates remain undisclosed.
As a nation of 1.3 million people, Estonia stands out as one of Ukraine's most significant military benefactors relative to its GDP, as noted by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. Including this latest aid package, Estonia's defense contributions to Ukraine have reached approximately 500 million euros ($550 million) since the escalation of the conflict, representing about 1.4% of Estonia's GDP.
Looking ahead, Estonia has committed to allocating 0.25% of its GDP over the next four years to further military assistance for Kyiv, reinforcing its position as a steadfast supporter of Ukraine during this challenging period.
