Switzerland has announced a significant winter aid package for Ukraine, totaling CHF 11.5 million ($13.3 million), as reported on December 20.

This contribution increases Switzerland's total winter assistance to Ukraine to approximately CHF 26 million ($30 million).

The aid comes at a crucial time as Ukraine faces the dual challenges of cold weather and intensified Russian attacks, particularly targeting the country's energy sector.

The Swiss funds are earmarked for NGOs operating near Ukraine's front lines, focusing on repairing damaged civilian infrastructure, providing heating materials, and ensuring clean water supplies.

Additionally, a portion of the Swiss government's winter aid has been allocated directly to Ukraine's State Emergency Service and United Nations programs.

These initiatives are designed to mitigate the impacts of the harsh weather and Russian assaults on energy infrastructure, offering cold-weather clothing, other essential supplies, and direct cash payments to war-affected and displaced Ukrainians.

In 2022, Switzerland also allocated CHF 54 million ($62 million) through the World Bank for reconstruction efforts in Ukraine, primarily targeting the repair of energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks. This latest round of aid underscores Switzerland's ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine during its challenging winter period and the broader conflict.
