Gunfire at school in Montreal

Trending Now

A Jewish school in Montreal, Canada, was the target of gunfire early on Sunday, marking the third such incident at a Jewish educational institution in the city within a week.

This alarming trend coincides with escalating tensions over the Israel-Gaza conflict.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported when Yeshiva Gedola of Montreal was struck. Bullet impact marks and shells were discovered following reports of gunfire heard by residents.

This is reported by CBC.

Two other Jewish schools in Montreal also reported finding bullet holes in their front doors on Thursday morning.

The connection between these incidents remains unclear. However, a violent confrontation at Concordia University on Wednesday, involving individuals representing opposing sides of the Israel-Gaza conflict, led to injuries and an arrest. This altercation may be indicative of the heightened tensions in the area.

Mayer Feig, a representative of the Council of Hasidic Jews of Quebec, expressed concern that these shootings are intended to intimidate the Jewish community in Montreal. In a related development, Toronto police have reported a significant increase in hate crimes against Jews and Muslims, more than doubling the total count for 2022 in just three weeks following the initial Hamas attack on October 7.

The conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas has led to substantial casualties. Israel reports that the Hamas attack resulted in approximately 1,400 deaths and over 240 hostages.

In response, the Israeli bombardment of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip has led to over 10,000 fatalities, according to Palestinian health authorities.
