The UK Ministry of Defence has disclosed that the average daily number of Russian casualties in Ukraine has escalated by nearly 300 over the course of 2023. This significant increase underscores the intensifying toll of the conflict on Russian forces.

Close to 500.000 casualties

The Ministry's analysis suggests a grim outlook for the Russian military if the current rate of casualties continues.

If these trends persist over the next year, Russia is projected to suffer losses exceeding half a million personnel in Ukraine.

Ukrainian Casualties

While Russia risks having lost as many as 500,000 soldiers by the end of 2024, the number is much smaller for Ukraine. At least, that's according to a report from The New York Times.

In August 2023, it was reported that Ukraine had lost 70,000 soldiers. Additionally, between 100,000 and 120,000 were said to have been injured in the war.
