Critics flooded the comment section with sharp insults.

Doing good deeds in public usually invites praise. Yet when high-profile figures showcase charitable efforts online, the crowd does not always cheer. Sometimes a single social media post can open the floodgates to intense political anger.

Back to school

Ivanka Trump recently took to social media to highlight a Florida giveaway. Her company, Planet Harvest, joined forces with Miami nonprofit Style Saves to assist children before school starts.

Writing on Instagram, she praised the event that supplied thousands of families with backpacks, uniforms, and fresh produce.

According to Irish Star, she wrote,

“Planet Harvest was thrilled to collaborate with Style Saves in support of more than 25,000 Miami families as they prepare for the new school year. Thanks to our incredible partners, students are heading back equipped with backpacks, uniforms, and nutritious food to nourish their bodies as they learn and grow.”

While some followers applauded her, critics flooded the comment section with sharp insults. One user asked, “Wouldn’t it have been wonderful if all those deported Florida kids could have attended this event?”

Others voiced similar outrage over immigration policies and economic strain. Another commenter wrote, “For one day only? Hypocte.” A third person added, “The cognitive dissonance is WILD,” while someone else shouted, “THE HYPOCRISY!!!”

Backlash and support

Social media users also pointed directly to federal cuts affecting struggling families. One critic asked, “After this admin took away food stamps?”

Still, not every response was negative. Some supporters praised her work, with one writing, “Thank you so much. It was an amazing event,” and another adding, “It pays off to care about people like you do, Ivanka!”

The intense online reaction connects directly to broader economic and social pressures. Federal food assistance spending has dropped significantly, while immigration enforcement has drawn widespread concern from civil rights groups.

Legal experts from Children’s Rights warned about detained minors, according to The Marshall Project. Leecia Welch stated, “Every American should be shocked that we’re incarcerating thousands of children,” adding, “It just adds up to an incredible amount of trauma.”

Profit for purpose

Despite the fierce criticism, she continues to promote her commercial venture as a force for good. Her firm operates on a profit model designed to purchase surplus crops directly from farms to reduce waste.

Speaking in a CNBC interview, she explained her choice to build a business rather than a traditional charity.

“Initially, I said, you know what, why don’t we just buy this excess and get it to food banks? And I thought that to really do the volume, to make it a functional private sector business … you can actually impact a lot more change,” she said.
