Kremlin: Putin is ready to continue peace-talks – but it’s not Russia’s main objective

The Russian President Vladimir Putin is prepared to pursue a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

However, the talks will not be the Russian main objective.

Second to Russian Goals

According to Peskov, Moscow remains firm that any settlement must align with its strategic objectives.

“Our goals are clear,” Peskov emphasized, indicating no compromise on core interests.

A “Long and Difficult” Road

Speaking on state television, Peskov acknowledged that while peace is a shared desire, the path to achieving it is complex.

“This is a long process, it requires effort, and it is not easy,” he said, reaffirming Putin’s past remarks about ending the conflict through negotiations, not continued escalation.

Trump’s Rhetoric on Russia: Harsh but not surprising

Peskov also commented on US President Donald Trump’s tone, describing it as “harsh” but not surprising to the global community.

Trump still aiming to be peace-broker

Despite the strong words, Peskov noted that Trump has consistently expressed interest in brokering peace with Russia, suggesting that diplomacy remains possible.

Yesterday, Kyiv proposed a new round of peace talks next week, after negotiationens stalled in early June.

Kremlin has not officially reacted to the proposal.
