The news stories about President Donald Trump and his personal assistant, Natalie Harp, seemingly will not stop.
A new can of fuel has now been added to the already stoked flames.
These letters shed new light on what their perceived relationship is like. It is eye-opening.
Personal letters leaked
Over the weekend, the left-leaning, high-end American tabloid news website The Daily Beast got its hands on two personal letters that Natalie Harp, Donald Trump’s personal assistant, wrote to him.
There has been a lot of reporting this past week, this outlet included, about their peculiar and unusual relationship.
There has been reporting about what the implications are of a 35-year-old aide, with no prior government experience, being so important to the president and essentially being his eyes and ears.
The letters put that reporting further into questioning.
A declaration of love and loyalty
The letters that The Daily Beast obtained were written in 2023. They were written while Harp was aiding the president during a golf trip in Scotland and Ireland.
Natalie Harp seems to be criticizing her own performance while holding Trump to a godlike standard and showering him with praise.
“I never want to bring you anything but joy. I’m sorry I lost my focus. You are all that matters to me. I don’t want to ever let you down. Thank you for being my Guardian and Protector in this Life,” Harp wrote in one of the letters.
Not just a strictly business relationship
The two letters were leaked to Michael Wolff, who has written books on the Trump presidencies and hosts a podcast for The Daily Beast.
The letters are not all about Harp’s own work assessment and the reverence she holds for Trump. She also reminisces about the relationship they used to have, when she was a news anchor for the far-right TV station One America News Network.
“I miss the days when you used to call, during my Talkshow days, and we’d talk about everything and nothing,” Harp mused. “I want to get back to that synergy. We shouldn’t have to talk about work all the time!”
Michael Wolff notes that this relationship is not a normal one, and that people in Trump’s orbit should be worried about how close she is getting to him.
“The relationship here is not a relationship that should exist in a professional setting,” Wolff said on his podcast Inside Trump’s Head.
The “Human Printer” nickname sticks
The letters Harp wrote revolve around her not feeling that she did a sufficient enough job during the golf outing. She apparently walked on the course while they were golfing, and she misplaced her passport at one of the airports.
Then she mentions her now-infamous nickname and how she wants to move away from that part of the job and toward a more personal one.
“We could be out on the Course, with no machines, and even forget what time it was! I didn’t have to be ‘Human Printer.’ I could take time and enjoy good conversation, and still get all my work done at the end of the day.”
Trump’s inner circle worried
Michael Wolff says that he was given the letters by someone very close to Trump. He also claims that there was a “revolt” among the staffers when they found the letters because of the nature of their relationship, how close she has gotten to Trump, and her inexperience working as a government official.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle defended Harp. When CNN tried to reach him for comment, he wrote that Harp was “one of the most loyal and hardest-working aides on President Trump’s team.”
However, someone clearly wanted this leaked. There have been private murmurs from Trump’s officials that this story has gotten out of hand.
As for Natalie Harp, these letters seem to establish that the nature of the relationship is one of total devotion and loyalty to her boss. Harp has put aside any personal ambitions to dedicate herself 100 percent to the president.
That is apparent when Harp ends one of the letters, “With all my heart, Natalie.”
