In a bizarre turn of events that sounds almost like a script out of a Hollywood movie, polish police officers have recently apprehended a 22-year-old man suspected of a series of thefts and burglaries, in which he posed as a mannequin to avoid detection by security cameras.

On the day of the incident, the young man, purse in hand, stood frozen in front of a shop window, attempting to blend in with the display mannequins. His goal was simple: to avoid being caught on camera, allowing him to carry out his nefarious plans undetected.

After the mall closed its doors to the public, he seized the opportunity to rob a jewelry "island," displaying a level of audacity and creativity rarely seen in criminal enterprises.

A Two part heist

The mannequin impersonator didn’t stop at just one heist. On a subsequent day, after the mall had once again closed its doors, he helped himself to a meal in one of the bars and then, in a daring move, slipped into a store under a steel curtain to exchange his old clothes for new ones.

This information has been provided by the local police in a press release

His hunger unsated, he returned to the bar for a second meal, seemingly unphased by the risks involved.

However, as is often the case, the man’s luck eventually ran out.

Security personnel spotted him, promptly calling the police, who detained him and brought him to the police station.

Investigations revealed that this was not his first rodeo; the 22-year-old was also found to have committed similar crimes in another gallery, including stealing money from several cash registers and attempting to steal other items after closing hours.

The Downtown Department for Combating Property Crime has charged the young man with burglary and theft, with proceedings being overseen by the District Prosecutor's Office of Warsaw Śródmieście Północ.

At the request of the Prosecutor's Office, the Court has decided to remand the suspect in custody for 3 months, pending trial. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
