McDonald’s UK Branch Make Adults-Only Zone

A McDonald’s in Greater Manchester is making headlines after banning under-16s from a designated seating area on weekdays.
The Whitefield branch has rolled out a “quiet zone” aimed at adults and remote workers looking for a peaceful place to enjoy their meals. without the soundtrack of shouting kids.
Kid-Free Space to Work or Relax

Dubbed a “business/quiet area,” the section is now strictly off-limits to anyone under the age of 16 from Monday to Friday.

The aim is to provide a tranquil space for laptop users, professionals, and solo diners to concentrate or unwind.
The Sign That Spells It Out

A notice inside the restaurant lays down the rules: “On weekdays, this area is reserved for business/laptop users and adults over 16.”
And in case there’s any confusion, it adds: “If you are lucky enough to look under 16, we reserve the right to ask you to use an alternative area.”
Booking the Space? Yes, You Can

The restaurant even allows customers to reserve the adult-only zone for group meetings.
While not guaranteed, staff will “try their best to accommodate your request,” encouraging people to speak to the shift manager for arrangements.
Power Sockets Included for Remote Workers

To sweeten the deal, some seats in the quiet zone come with extra power sockets and USB ports, ideal for anyone plugging in for a study session or Zoom call.
Restaurant operator Simon Toft says the decision came directly from customer feedback.
“We’ve introduced a dedicated Business Area on weekdays for anyone aged 16 and over who wants a quieter space to work or study,” he explained.
A Tailored Experience for Everyone

Toft insists the move isn’t anti-kid, it’s about offering different spaces for different needs.
“Whether you’re bringing the kids to enjoy the Play Place or looking for a calm spot to focus, we’re proud to offer spaces that suit everyone.”
Not a Nationwide Rollout (Yet)

For now, this adults-only seating arrangement is unique to the Whitefield branch.
McDonald’s has confirmed it’s not a nationwide policy, but depending on customer response, who knows what the future holds?
This isn’t McDonald’s first time drawing the line on younger customers.
In 2022, a branch in Liverpool barred all under-18s from entering after 5:00pm to cut down on antisocial behaviour.
