Building a modern lifestyle brand takes massive effort and a clear digital strategy.
Celebrity founders often seek innovative ways to capture public attention and turn social media engagement into sales. However, the internet can be an unforgiving place when a new business venture fails to win over consumers, The Express reports.
Influencer strategy slammed
Meghan Markle is facing intense internet backlash over her recent corporate marketing choice. According to a report by The Express, the Duchess of Sussex triggered a wave of mockery after announcing a new partnership for her lifestyle brand, As Ever.
Her company teamed up with Olivia McDowell, a popular American influencer who covers fashion, beauty, and home style. McDowell set up her home with the brand’s products to give fans summer hosting tips.
The move backfired quickly on social media. Critics immediately accused the duchess of relying on web personalities because she lacks original concepts to make her business look attractive to shoppers.
Harsh online reviews
Disgruntled observers flooded social media with sharp criticism over the marketing approach.
The user wrote, “It appears that Meghan Markle is so devoid of ideas about how to sell As ever that she’s hired another influencer to basically repeat her same talking points for the brand. Yikes.” The post continued, “If the talking points aren’t working, you get new talking points, not hire someone else to repeat the same failing lines.”
Other critics agreed with the negative assessment. Another user shared the sentiment, stating, “Even I think it’s pathetic and I’ve tried to be neutral.”
Many onlookers feel the products themselves are simply too expensive to succeed. Pointing out the brand’s inventory, a third detractor commented, “Nothing she does will start selling those overpriced fruit spreads and wickless candles.”
Montecito family updates
Some people believe the brand’s reputation has already suffered too much damage from early mistakes. Another critic added, “Too late. She’s already tarnished it by thinking she knew it all and didn’t need help or professional advice. Oh well.”
Away from the business drama, the duchess also shared a rare glimpse into her personal life. She published a fresh social media post documenting her quiet family life in Montecito, California.
The update featured an array of warm photos and videos of Prince Harry, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet. The royal family is currently spending quality time together as they are “springing into summer” with their pet beagle, Mia, and a new group of family hatchlings.
