A high-profile event in Washington was disrupted by a sudden security scare over the weekend.
Days later, attention has turned to how those involved are recovering.
According to The Express, First Lady Melania Trump made a short public comment following Saturday’s attempted attack at a major media gathering in the US capital.
The incident occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, where a gunman reportedly tried to approach the venue while armed with multiple weapons.
Security response
The Express reported that US President Donald Trump, previously targeted in an earlier assassination attempt, was quickly escorted away by Secret Service agents along with senior officials.
During the chaos, one officer was shot but avoided serious injury thanks to a bulletproof vest and was later taken to hospital.
Authorities identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, from Torrance, California.
Brief remark
Speaking at a White House event on Monday, Melania Trump was asked about her wellbeing after the incident.
She responded simply: “very well.”
The comment came during a formal ceremony welcoming the King and Queen to the United States.
Royal visit
The Express reports that King Charles and Queen Camilla were greeted with a large-scale military display on the White House lawn, attended by political leaders and invited guests.
The ceremony included national anthems performed by the United States Marine Band and a 21-gun salute in honour of the visiting royals.
Senior figures, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, were present alongside hundreds of spectators.
Ceremonial display
Military units took part in the event, with performances from honour guards and marching bands despite earlier rainfall.
The King also carried out a traditional inspection of the troops, mirroring customs typically seen during state visits to the UK.
The visit marks celebrations linked to the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence, with further engagements scheduled over several days.
