Russian media have reported the death of Yevgeny Mikhailovich Putin, the cousin of Russian President Vladimir Putin, at the age of 90.

The news comes from the IvanoNews website, which noted that Yevgeny celebrated his 90th birthday at the end of February. The details surrounding the circumstances and cause of his death remain undisclosed.

Yevgeny Putin's Family's Prominent Ties

According to WP.pl, Yevgeny Putin's family resided in Ivanovo until 2002, moving to Moscow following Vladimir Putin's rise to power, and later settling in Suzdal. Known for his significant contributions to urology between the years 1970-1990, Yevgeny Putin was celebrated for his work in helping patients recover. Nevertheless, it's his family's connections that have drawn more considerable attention from international observers.

His son, Mikhail Putin, holds a position as the vice-president of Gazprom's management board, a fact that has been acknowledged by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, who described Mikhail as a "distant relative" of the Russian leader. Peskov also clarified that Vladimir Putin does not maintain any contact with him.

Yevgeny's daughter, Anna, further extends the family's notable connections as the wife of the governor of the Kemerovo Oblast and the owner of one of Russia's largest coal companies, having received shares from her husband in 2018.

The funeral of Yevgeny Mikhailovich Putin was held on Sunday, March 10th, marking the end of a life that had, directly and indirectly, influenced various sectors in Russia, from healthcare to the energy industry and beyond.
