What is happening?

A new report outlines how Russia is using North Korean weapons to terrorize Ukrainian cities as well as ramping up attacks on critical civilian infrastructure.
Who made the report?

The report is made by the Multilateral Santions Monitoring Team (MSMT), which is a group dedicated to monitor and report on the implementation of the UN’s sanctions on North Korea.
The team is supported by 11 countries, including the US, Japan, the UK and France.

What does the report say?

According to the report, at least 100 ballistic missiles from North Korea have been used by Russian forces to target populated areas like Kiev and Zaporizjzja.
20,000 containers of ammo

The report also says that Russia has recieved approx. 20,000 containers of ammunition since September of 2023.
This amounts to as many as nine millions rounds of artillery and rocket launcher ammunition.
“Myriad unlawful activities”

The MSMT said that the evidence available shows that Russia and North Korea has engaged in “myriad unlawful activities”, that are prohibited by UN sanctions.
Closer military partnership

North Korea and Russia signed a comprehensive treaty outlining the countries “strategic partnership”.
This included a commitment to come to each others aid if one of the countries is attacked.
What does North Korea get in return?

While Russia is in need of North Korean weapons, North Korea on the other hand needs Russian help with its spy satellite programme.
