Fresh claims about Meghan Markle’s social standing in Hollywood have emerged after reports suggested several high-profile friendships linked to the Duchess of Sussex have cooled in recent years.
According to British tabloid reports, some industry figures are increasingly reluctant to publicly associate with Meghan and Prince Harry amid concerns over publicity and personal branding, reports The Express.
Celebrity connections
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were once widely associated with major celebrity figures including Oprah Winfrey, George and Amal Clooney, and David and Victoria Beckham.
However, recent reports in the Daily Mail claim some of those relationships may not have remained as close as previously believed.
An unnamed source quoted by the publication alleged that Harry and Meghan “love famous people” and described the couple as “very name-droppy.”
The report suggested some celebrities fear being publicly linked to Meghan for commercial or promotional reasons.
Fashion venture
Broadcaster and former Page Six columnist Paula Froelich told the Daily Mail that concerns surrounding Meghan’s latest business projects may be contributing to the distancing.
“No one wants to hang out with Meghan,” Froelich said.
“Lots of reasons, but she might sell clothes while using their name,” she added, referring to Meghan’s fashion-related online activity.
The comments were linked to reports about Meghan promoting clothing and outfit selections through an app-based platform that reportedly provides commission earnings from sales.
Blame game
Another unnamed insider cited by the Daily Mail claimed the Duke and Duchess do not believe they are responsible for any breakdown in relationships.
“They don’t get it. They never think it is them,” the source said.
The claims have not been publicly addressed by Meghan or Prince Harry.
In recent years, the couple’s relationship with both the British royal family and sections of the media has remained heavily scrutinized following interviews, documentaries, and commercial ventures launched after stepping back from royal duties.
