An airplane from Air India carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members has crashed shortly after takeoff in Ahmedabad, India.
The plane was bound for Gatwick Airport, London.
Engine failure
According to Express, the pilot of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner made a Mayday call to Air Traffic Control saying “engine failure”.
The plane crashed seconds later.
Crashed in residential area
According to local authorities, the plane crashed in a residential area outside the airport.
Multiple nationalities
According to Air India, 169 of the passengers are Indian nationals.
53 are Brits.
7 are Portuguese.
1 is Canadian.
100 bodies recovered so far
The rescue operation is ongoing, but so far at least 100 bodies have been recovered from the crash site.
