Large-scale search is ongoing in Tennessee after authorities identified a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting. Law enforcement has issued warnings about the individual, citing his training and potential danger.
The case has drawn attention due to the suspect’s background and the circumstances of his disappearance.
Search intensifies
According to PEOPLE, police are searching for Craig Berry, a retired special forces veteran accused of shooting his wife.
He was last seen around 1:30 a.m. on May 1 near River Trace Road in Stewart County, Tennessee.
The Stewart County Sheriff’s Office said it has obtained a warrant to charge him with second-degree attempted murder.
Authorities believe Berry is armed and may have additional ammunition.
High-risk suspect
In a statement, officials described Berry as highly trained and physically capable.
He “has extensive training in survival tactics” and is considered dangerous, according to the sheriff’s office.
Police added: “He is an excellent swimmer and diver, and is in good physical shape.”
Investigators also believe he may not have a phone or any other communication devices.
Ongoing manhunt
Search teams, including K-9 units, tracked Berry’s last known location, with evidence suggesting he was wearing camouflage clothing.
Officials have not ruled out the possibility that he received outside assistance after the incident.
Authorities now believe he may have left the immediate area, prompting a wider search effort.
The US Marshals Service has joined local and state agencies, including the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Public appeal
Law enforcement agencies are urging residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
A coordinated search is planned across multiple areas, including locations near Highway 79 and Highway 232.
Berry’s wife, believed to be a local teacher, has not been publicly identified.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue efforts to locate the suspect.
