He says Trump will voluntarily step down following November’s midterm elections.
Political campaigns often produce wild theories when election season heats up.
When a party senses a historic defeat on the horizon, rumors usually start flying about how top leaders might react to the fallout.
A bold prediction
Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville made a startling prediction about President Donald Trump on the Daily Beast Podcast.
According to the Irish Star, Carville claimed Trump will voluntarily step down following November’s midterm elections.
Projections currently give Democrats a strong chance of taking back control of the House of Representatives. Carville argued that the president lacks the fortitude to handle such a devastating political loss.
“He’s going to walk away,” Carville said during the broadcast. He added that Trump is “a soft man” who will face intense blame from inside his own party once the results come in.
Seeking a deal
The political insider argued that stepping aside offers Trump a clear exit strategy from his ongoing legal troubles. Carville suggested that resigning allows the president to secure an ironclad legal pardon from his successor.
“He’s going to throw up a white flag,” Carville remarked. He explained that Trump will hand power to Vice President JD Vance in exchange for full protection from criminal prosecution.
“He’s going to go to Vance,” Carville said. “And the lawyers are going to say ‘Look you can pardon yourself, but it’s a 50/50 deal. If Vance is president and he pardons you, that’s 100%.’ So that’s what he’s going to do.”
High political stakes
The strategist warned that party loyalty vanishes quickly when election results turn sour. “Political parties… they don’t like losing,” Carville observed. He noted that “As long as you’re winning, they’ll give you great leeway. If you’re losing, they hate you.”
Democrats are already preparing an aggressive legislative agenda if they capture the majority in November. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries outlined several top priorities for a Democratic House, including rolling back healthcare cuts.
“We have to reverse the Medicaid cuts,” Jeffries said. He added, “We should extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits.”
Jeffries also stressed the need to reclaim congressional power over international trade. “We should restore congressional authority as it relates to tariffs, because the Trump tariffs are making life more expensive for the American people,” Jeffries stated according to the Irish Star.
