Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan does not supply weapons to Ukraine and has no plans to do so, despite receiving requests from Ukraine for military assistance.

This stance was made clear during his speech at a meeting with participants in the COP29 and Green Vision for Azerbaijan international forum.

Azerbaijan's Position on Arms Supply

President Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan provides humanitarian assistance to Ukraine but draws the line at supplying weapons.

"We do not supply weapons to Ukraine, even though we've been asked, but we cannot. We say it openly and publicly, and we will not. Humanitarian assistance, yes. Weapons, no," he stated to Interfax.

Despite its refusal to supply weapons, Azerbaijan has contributed significantly to Ukraine's humanitarian and financial needs.

According to Aliyev, Azerbaijan's humanitarian and financial assistance to Ukraine has exceeded 30 million euros. Additionally, Azerbaijan is involved in the reconstruction of Irpen, a city with a large Azerbaijani diaspora, where the country is restoring social infrastructure.

A View on the Conflict in Ukraine

President Aliyev expressed his views on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, describing the situation as a "great tragedy." He suggested that the war might have been avoided if previous Ukrainian leaders had built more constructive relations with Russia.

"Was there a chance to avoid the war? I think, yes. Was there a chance for Ukrainian leaders in previous years to build normal relations with Russia? I'm absolutely sure that yes," the President remarked.
