Prince Harry’s latest public conversation about his mental health has attracted attention following reports that he received a substantial payment for participating.
The Duke of Sussex spoke candidly about grief, depression and the emotional consequences of leaving royal life during an online educational session reports The Express.
Payment Details Emerge
According to The Express and the Press Association, a source close to Harry confirmed that he received compensation for appearing alongside neuroscientist Dr Mary-Frances O’Connor on MasterClass.
The Daily Mail reported that the duke could have earned approximately $100,000 (£75,500), potentially alongside additional income linked to subscriptions. However, his actual payment has not been publicly disclosed.
The Hollywood Reporter previously estimated that MasterClass instructors typically receive around $100,000 upfront, with additional earnings connected to their courses.
Defending Harry’s participation, the source told The Express: “I’d encourage everyone to watch it before casting any judgment,” while also describing his contribution as “speaking from the heart”.
Harry Reveals Depression
The discussion, titled “Redefining Grief: Building Resilience Through Loss.”, explored how personal loss and prolonged stress can affect emotional well-being.
Harry recalled experiencing a difficult period after moving to Canada with Meghan Markle and their son Archie in late 2019.
“I actually slipped into depression for about two weeks, and I felt like I couldn’t function without adrenaline,” he said.
He explained that leaving an intensely pressured environment brought an unexpected emotional downturn, despite initially seeking relief from royal responsibilities.
Life After Royalty
The Sussexes initially stayed on Vancouver Island before formally stepping away from senior royal duties in 2020 and eventually establishing their family home in California.
In August 2026, the couple returned to Britain with their children after six years abroad. Sky News reported that Harry subsequently described the family’s return positively, saying their children were settling into school.
Harry’s MasterClass appearance adds to his previous public discussions about grief and psychological recovery. While his participation was paid, the precise financial arrangements remain unconfirmed.
